engagement photos laguna beach

I’m obsessed with the light we had from that golden Cali sun for Bre and Matt’s engagement photos on Laguna Beach at sunset! All the fun I had getting to know this lovely couple and chasing that gorgeous sunlight on the beach reminded me of how important planning an engagement shoot is to me and my relationship to the couples I work with. I pride myself on building trust during engagement sessions by connecting with each client and helping them relax enough to focus on each other and just being themselves.

Couples That Adventure Together Stay Together!

Bre and Matt love the beach AND their dog, Frankie, so it just made sense to incorporate two of their loves (besides each other!) into their engagement photos!

On top of having the most adorable pup and being a naturally gorgeous couple, these two lovebirds love to travel, surf, and be adventurous together. Matt proposed to Bre in Bali and they decided to celebrate their engagement with a fun photo shoot on a scenic Cali beach.

You can easily tell how much this couple loves being around each other after just a few minutes with them. We spent almost the entire session laughing together and having a good time and that genuine happiness is so apparent in each of their photos!

“When we left Matt said, I think every single picture is going to have us laughing in them!” – Bre

How I Help Couples Relax and Enjoy Their Photo Shoot

If you’re not already comfortable in front of the camera, having your photos taken especially by a photographer you’ve just met can seem intimidating and you’re not alone! Many of the couples I photograph are a little nervous when we first start taking pictures, but it’s my job to forget why they were ever nervous in the first place. I always have a lot of fun with my couples and often hear, “We’re done already? That went so fast!” by the time we’ve taken the last few photos. I love to be goofy to lighten the mood and am not afraid to make a fool of myself to help you relax!

What Should You Wear to Your Engagement Shoot?

I like to think of engagement sessions as a reason to get dressed up, explore a new place, and fall even more in love with each other! You can treat your engagement shoot as a dress rehearsal for your wedding. Have your hair and makeup done by a professional like Breana Borchers from Butterfli Me Makeup Studio, the makeup artist who highlighted Bre’s natural beauty. You can even use your photo shoot as an excuse for a spa day to really feel relaxed in front of the camera!

I recommend my couples wear something comfortable that shows off their personality. I love when ladies wear a flowy floor length dress that moves with the wind especially for those romantic sunset shots! Bre found her amazing dress at Isabella’s Cabinet in California. Men look good when their outfit complements their significant other. A collared shirt and nice slacks always look great, just without any obvious logos. You’re also welcome to bring along a second outfit to give yourself a dressier option.

The most important thing to remember when picking out your outfits for photos is to make sure you feel comfortable and confident in whatever you choose!

I love that my couples let their guards down and be themselves during our shoot. At the end of engagement sessions, I love to just let the couple “be” – be together, love one another, and take in the beautiful moment celebrating their love.
